The early days of Tekken with Masanori Yamada

While it was no secret that the early years of Tekken development were a turbulent storm, no one could predict the impact that came with the rise of the very first PlayStation. Masanori Yamada was the main programmer for Tekken 1 through to Tekken 3 and found himself on the forefront of emerging new technology. Talking with Polygon, Yamada-san reminisces on his older and more hectic days of developing Tekken games while under corporate deadlines and the advancement of 3D graphics. "We were all told not to go home without authorization, even on weekends,” he explains during a dinner session with former Sony developers and businessmen. Yamada goes on to conclude that he misses the early days when it came to video game development considering the level of challenge and innovation needed at the time and compares them to the level today where he voices concerns that the games themselves aren't changing much. There's a broad range of topics covered in this conversation with Archipel/Polygon so you can find some snippets posted down below but check out the full documentary style interview for the bulk of the history behind gaming development during the times:

Rumor: Microsoft Store leaks Tekken 7's Season Pass 3 contents

While the world finals for Tekken 7 begins today in Thailand, Microsoft have seemingly gone ahead and revealed the characters coming to Tekken 7 early in Season Pass 3. According to the recently updated Season Pass 3 listing, joining Leroy Smith and paid frame data this winter is none other than the Tekken sumo wrestler Ganryu as DLC #11. After Ganryu, a brand new fighter named Fahkumram will also be joining Tekken 7 sometime next year alongside a brand new stage. Although we haven't seen this new name in action yet, the name origin seems to imply a brand new Thai fighter. We don't have anything beyond the accidental Microsoft Store listing to go from but the reveal should occur tomorrow before the Tekken top 8 like usual. The listing for Season Pass 3 as of now was already updated to remove the leak but the info is already out there and I'm hearing that they've already started banning people from mentioning the leak on the official Tekken Twitch channel. Thanks go to @ArtisanOfIhsaan on twitter for bringing the news to our attention.

A day in the life of a Japanese Game Programmer at Bandai Namco Studios

Ever wondered what it's like to work at the studio behind the Tekken or SoulCalibur series? The latest video from Paolo fromTOKYO follows the daily routine of 23-year-old video game programmer, Masa, as he commutes to work at one of the largest video game studios in Japan. As you might expect, it's not the most glamorous job in the world but free access to drinks while working with your shoes off is pretty darn sweet. This unescorted look inside the company office is insightful for those who are following or wish to get into the world of Japanese video game development. There's even a brief exchange on Tekken 7 Season 3 DLC with the Tekken 7 game director Nakatsu so free to check it out now on the YouTube channel:

Arcade Tekken 7 Fated Retribution to end network services March 26, 2020

After three years of operation in the arcade sector, Bandai Namco is pulling the plug on T7FR's network service early next year. Arcades that operate cabinets of the game but did not buy the Round 2 USB upgrade are to be taken offline disabling the use of Banapassport cards and certain online game functionality. The game will still be playable offline but features like player and ranking data, character customization and online match-making will no longer be available come March 26, 2020. The Round 2 version of the game on the other hand, is set to receive a big content update in Spring of 2020. Full details on T7FR's network termination can be found on the notice posted to the Tekken-Official website:

Tekken 7 to receive full balance update mid-December says Harada

Relaying the word from Twitter, Tekken head Katsuhiro Harada mentioned a 'full' balance update to Tekken 7 is planned for mid-December after the TWT finals. Given the timing of the upcoming balance patch, some are already speculating that this might come alongside the other game additions in Season Pass 3 with Leroy Smith, 1 additional DLC character and the paid Frame Data feature. Perhaps the dev team is back to finish the job with Akuma? I guess we'll find out during the TWT Finals event in Bangkok, Thailand on December 7th.  Thanks goes to the Josie Bot on twitter for bringing the news to our attention. Oh and uh, if you're bad-mouthing Harada on twitter about how much you hate Law or whatever, it's probably a lot better to tweet it in English since using a machine translation can alter your intent lol.
