TTT2: Play Tests Indicate Duplicate Character Teams Not Fun
In a translated interview by SGCafe, Katsuhiro Harada stated that after multiple complaints of having to learn two characters in TTT2, they tried allowing two of the same character on one team and it was unanimous that players thought it was not fun.
“We tried this out, and it turned out to be extremely discomforting! (Laughs) For instance, if Lili were to launch her opponent and tag out, in comes Lili again… what the?! (Laughs) Also, suppose all four characters on both teams were Lili, we don’t even know what’s going to happen anymore,” Harada told 4Gamer.
“To be sure, we had a bunch of test players come in to give this [duplicate characters on a team] a go. The feedback received was unanimous: ‘this is just not very fun…’ So we had them try 1-vs-1 instead. As this format was pretty similar to past Tekken games, naturally it played well.”
I find this topic to be very peculiar. Why didn't TTT1 have the same complaint from players? I remember the tag system being recieved very well when that game was released. Have players gotten lazy? Or perhaps the depth of each character has become so much more complex that players feel overwhelmed.

Aris, players are much lazier these days and dont put the effort to learn the games, myself included.
it is hard when you finally master a character and then move on to a new one your execution on the the first one is off at least for me so i find it hard to keep it going but my goal for ttt2 is to master kazuya and jinpachi and maybe ogre and i only play online or arcade mode i dont really have any friends lol but if id played in a japanese or american arcade i bet i would learn much more and alot faster
Get rid of bound and the game is FUCKING FINE AGAIN
years of bullshit just because one down syndrome mechanic. lose that shit and all the complications go away and that shit is simple yet deep enough to be good again.
Come on, you have almost half a year to learn another character in T6. ;)
characters are just harder to play. about 2-3 times as many moves, and about twice as many characters. that's a big jump. tekken tag 1 was also a different era....
and bound is not the problem. saying so is an instant way to sound dumb.
All these people complaining about how hard a game is. Thats what makes it great at the professional level. Making the people who have skill stand out more than people w/o it. I understand why they did it for marketing reasons... but this generations of games are a bunch of whiny weak minded kids. Waaa make it easier... I like a game to challenge my mind and my skill, things that are easy get boring fast.
bound is a big problem. i also dislike this mechanic very very much. it allows for what normally is small float dmg into huge combos, it allows for brainless walk carries to pressure that ends rounds quickly, and makes overall execution dumbed down. i remember when a wal carry meant something damnit! 4,5,6 dash jabs... the good ol' days
I think the game is just harder.
i can't believe ppl here still complain about bound after 3+ years...BR did well for itself in japan and korea...aside from SC5 you come to ATP finding the majority of vids to be T6 and Tag2....get the fuck out of here with that old man syndrome
"multiple complaints of having to learn two characters in TTT2"
that's just mindblowing.
Aris, come on, man! TTT1 had like half the roster with 1/3 of the moveset of T6. Now you have 40 fucking characters, with crush-system, so you have to learn every fucking string and frames for 40+ characters with 100+ moves each.
T6 is lightyears harder than TTT1 ever was.
Also, I cannot believe people bitch about the bound system. That is like the easiest thing to learn, it's not even hard to master the bound move plus an ender for damage/ carry or oki. If anything people should bitch about the fact that to play against a character you basically have to learn that character inside and out.
That's why I think it's amazing that Harada thinks it's a normal complaint that people need to learn 2 characters. If they cannot do that, it means they are not really any good in Tekken. Should Harada really listen to such people??
the problem with bound isnt that its hard to learn because its fucking easy. the problem with bound is that its retarded like wall push; unnecessary game mechanic. might as well add some fucking pillars and uneven floors to this bitch.
tekken is a really fun game specially because of the difficulty of the game . having other character is not a problem, for people who complain about the bounce system they don't know nothing about improvement because when you play tekken 6 and you try to play tekken 5 later you will see that the bounce was the only way to improve the combo . the only problem is the community we don't have many players our crow is way too small we need more players just like south korea or japan or the marvel ... street fighter community other why this game wil die soon .we need to found a way to play together every day looolllllllll playing online is way to lagy to enjoy the game at 100%.
two solution to bring more players:
1) deep training mode
2) a miracle improvement in online to play without lag. period
'fighting game its all about playing each other to be the best cause the computer can't reach the sky , only us"
the way i see it as long as you hit a certain level in tekken you will have enough skills to learn how to play 5~10~20+ characters at a master level. If you crave and enjoy this game very much it should be a fun challenge and not an extra burden to learn at least 1 additional character. I mean seriously how hard is it to learn ONE additional character?? Just one more?!?!
what harada needs to do is give most characters a good filler move and possibly even a finisher move. For instance, they gave ling a new 3 hit filler combo. Another common filler that you see in match video is leos two hit off of BOK stance. Namco game a good finisher move like devil jins double kick f+3+4. We need more key moves for characters that dont have these or at least change the properties of the move.
i agree with phunnykidd and jakethesnake
bound is just an unnecessary mechanic to make it seem like more was added to the games than there actually was
it's not like it's hard to learn, and people give me the excuse that it's worthwhile because you have to learn new combos and you have to be weary of where the wall is and whether you should bound before the wall or after the wall. if you ask me, that's not complicated, that's just what we've had to do since tekken 4 but with a different take on it. still the same concept, except now it's unnecessarily easy to extend combos while getting huge damage. (relative)
whatever, you can't get through to these new players that will defend 'their' version of tekken regardless of how long some of us have been playing and the hundreds of tournaments we've all run/entered to help this community grow to what it has today.
just please everyone stop bullshitting yourself and claiming bound is worth anything more than an easy juggle filler. at the end of the day bound is just a take on the concept of jin doing jfls, 1,2,3, d+4 except in theory he would do jfls, 1,2,3, iws 1,2, d+4.
Aris can you express your concern with mr harada about bears and cap players being able to do virtually this. Although there are slight differences in eddy and christie thanks to limb length it seems unfair to me. Why reward them for using one character twice...chreddy and bears should be pallette swaps so they can only be used once per team.
Its never gonna be removed so just move on. it adds another layer of strategy.... it doesn't add any damage because of the damage scaling in the game and because of the HP boost. It doesn't affect how you play almost at all. And many high level matches there is more poking than juggle. So get good and you won't get launched. Don't play haphazzardly and you won't get launched. Its a part of the game now... get used to it.
whats more annoying to me is the recovery. ok so i got punished and laying on my back already after being launched now i have to play my cards right just to be able to recover without a scratch. then the oki bound comes with another wall combo ~ KO ~ Fuuuuu~
its funny how people complain about bound because it does "a lot" of damage, if you will actually see the percent of damage done by combos from tekken 3, TTT1 to TTT2 you will notice that most juggles do almost 50%. the only difference is in tekken 3/TTT1 only a few characters can actually do 50% after a launcher.
and saying that bound is "an easy juggle filler". thats stupid, because since juggles are longer, the margin for error becomes bigger, its so damn easy to just do devil's d/f 1,2(launch) 4 as a juggle
@jom
It doesnt matter how long youve played tekken, it doesnt make you smarter of better than most players, live with it. You are just some guy who would choose to play TTT! and play as devil or ogre or true ogre and do safe long range launchers and unblockables the whole game
I like how you guys are talking about the bound or any other shit that is irrelevant to this topic.
Anyways, It does look to me like people have just gotten lazy and they just don't want to put in the time in the game in which I find that to be pretty damn pathetic in my opinion.
