Avoiding the Puddle Episode 18 featuring LingMassacre
BY Aris ON Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 3:53PM
In this episode I catch up with LingMassacre. I highly recommend listening to the discussion towards the end of the interview with him because we get into some interesting philosophical topics. But before that, MYK and I discuss how the new trend of comeback mechanics in fighting games may be resulting in an angrier fighting game player. Is trash talk combined with X-Factor a recipe for disaster?

his name should really be fengmaster
hey aris
with ldmaxi's help can you interview knee, holeman or tbl?
What is philosophy? ;p
Good work, Justin.
What's the music at the start of this episode?
Awesome podcast Aris and thanks for your wisdom LM.
This is probably the most inspiring interview yet for any average or upcoming Tekken player.
For someone like me who loses all the time and every other player at my scene is better than me, sometimes I wonder why I keep playing. You answered that question for me dead on. We play because we love the game.
Thank you LM.
really awesome interview. Good job Justin and much respect to you from Colorado.
Isaak
I got a lot of time for you LM - that Ling BreakDown was part LM and part AC-Ling (my Sensei) inspired. lol
No trashtalking Ryan/GM/Tran though - lol
But - when you said Steve was a Block~Punish character... you kinda made my ears prick up there.
Bruce is Mr Block~Punish - even Paul is Mr Block~Punish.......... Steve - uh Block Jabs without knockdown/splat until 14. Generic launchers only 19 and up. He wouldn't be my 1st choice as a block~punish character. lol
Agree with you on the Tiers in this game though - I believe anyone/char has a chance. Some match ups do have a tip in favour sometimes, but not enough to call match ups broken or something. well imo anyway.
Agree more with Aris on why I play the game though - imo it's about that Ryu syndrome where you just want that next guy that's known good, and you want to pull something out of the bag and surprise everyone and even yourself sometimes.
At any rate, you're cool shit and I like your hat.
Aris and MYK good shit as usual - loved the Japan relief effort... I was chatting about the same thing to my guys here in S.A about that last weekend. The Insanely Brave team that went into the reactor's core to try and cool it down and the 30cm whole in the plantation wall that is leaking radiation into the ocean that some more poor souls have to risk their lives to clean up.
And yeah, because it's Japan and one's experienced that broken tier country - shit hits home.
great cast - have a good eve all.
@sanity: Glad I could give a frame for what you're thoughts are on the game. It really is fun :)
@Isaak: Boy howdy, how long has it been? Glad to see you're hangin' round :). Still rockin' the casbah I presume?
@FoxSteve: Yeah, I knew as soon as I said that someone was gonna call me out for Steve not being able to launch -15. Really Law is a better choice in terms of punishers... But what was going through my mind at the time was, "Who can intimidate the opponent to throw out -10 and -12?" Between 112, sonic fang, and what a decent pressure can do, I thought of Steve. Maybe Bullrage has some thoughts on the matters too :). I just think that punishment charts are over-rated for -13 and up.
I like the hat too ^^
@lingmassacare: its been a long time man. even though i play in local tourneys now a days, real life really kicked in man. you got facebook? i would like to talk to you further man.
peace
Really good podcast :)
Hopefully LM can go on another one
So good to hear you talk about the older players. DOM is hands down my favourite ling player of all time
Also, full respect to justin for forgiving the 2 matches. if u beat someone because they're late then you're not really beating them at tekken are you? if you say that all that matters is to beat an opponent by all means necessary then why not go to your opponenets house the night before and cut off their thumbs? the reason you wouldnt do that is because you want to beat them in terms of skill vs skill. winning because someone was late is not actually winning
Yes.... the perfect plan. Next time I'll just cut Kor's thumbs off.
Like I said in the podcast, my intention was to play tekken. Not to beat him on even terms. Really, I've tried getting to a point in my understanding of competitive play where I don't care about winning or losing. I'm not there yet, I probably will never be there. It requires self-assuredness, which frankly I lack. But it's what I hope to attain. My goal with Kor was to just play tekken, not try to prove something.
Would have been nice if I won though...
Well. He's a stronger fighter than I am when he's on point.
Why the Canadian tekken player hate out of curiosity? xP
