Backdash Cancelling to be made easier in future Tekken Games
BY Wonkey ON Monday, April 7, 2014 at 7:06PM
Yes. RT @TekkenArgentina Backdash cancelling is too hard. Will you make it easier in future Tekken games?

Probably the most blunt answer that you can get out of this topic. No specifics on how this will be achieved but it's something to look forward to in future Tekken games.

It's also entirely plausible Harada was just trolling or didn't bother to give a complete answer.
1-button electrics, plz. Kappa
Everybody will be the master of whiff, what the purpose?
Dem argentinians salty over Negro vs JDCR huh
... next question will be about making throwbreaking easier KAPPA
lol, the elitists are sweating now.
Just remove the crush system already.
@Kaiz
Understand the concept of sarcasm.
In the future, backdashing will be as easy as forward dashing, there will be 1 button electrics, and all mishimas will get t4 Jin's laser scraper, except without it having to be executed as a justframe. Yeah, that seems like such a great idea, i bet more new players will play tekken!
The input itself for BDCing is fine. What I think they should change is make it so that as long as the player is holding back, they block. This crap where you get hit in between backdashes because you didn't technically hold back the second time you hit back should be removed. If the player is holding back at any time while they are attacked, they should be able to block. Period.
Noobs want the power :)
better learn defense
I don't get why people think it's a bad idea to make any execution easier. In my opinion everything should be easiest possible to execute. Or else it's just a arbitrary barrier that hinders people from enjoying the game at it's fullest potential.
The 'skill' should be on knowing WHEN to do something, not how to execute it or that you're born with weaker fingerdexterity and that don't allow you to get good at this game.
The mindgames and the knowledge about the game is the funnest part, not the musclememory of executing random shit. But to be honest, no matter what Harada does, the glorydays of Tekken are gone. It's just too little too late. Just my two cents.
I pretty much agree with everything Realyst said.
Also, @Reality
They already made throw breaking easier in Tekken Revolution.
@Bachlerfrog it was more a pun regarding the fact that el negro couldn't break throws with a gun to his head and once that got downloaded by JDCR it was exploited. But then again; Jinpachi.
Rutherford: You are WRONG, sir. Tekken has always derived its depth from the fact that you have to work hard to get the little extras. You might as well complain that a basketball player should always get 3 points for his shot, so long as he was open and behind the line.
Look at the most popular games.
THEY ARE EASY TO PLAY!
Its that simple. The reason why so few care for tekken is the bland looks and 1000's of moves and the movement is not only difficult, it looks stupid.
Tekken needs to start selling out hard.
Each to it's own! I personally think knowing WHAT to do and WHEN to do it is the funnest part of the games. The mindgames and all. Not some arbitrary movement that only few people can do and that stops the mojority from enjoying the game. Hard executions is just a random barrier.
Next, they need to cut down the cast to 35 and reduce the movelist to max 100. Then we're talking. Tekken will be played by everubody and their mother. It'll be back to it's glorydays!
I have to disagree with you Rutherford.
I used to think the same way but after taking the time to get decent with both mishimas and lee I have to say that they is a sense of pleasure from being able to overcome execution barriers and performs things that a lot of other players cannot.
And I think your wrong about games being easiest being the most popular because SFxT was ridiculously easy compared to SF with its boost chain combos system and super lenient link combos. Yet people got bored of it quickly for that very same reason.
If the hoop was lowered so anyone could dunk no one would give a shit about dunking. It wouldn't be hype anymore.
Fighting games were always about mindgames AND execution.
Not just mindgames.
Leave execution alone but change LAME character design and Tekken popularity in west will improve.
For the longest time, backdash cancelling has always separated who was "good" in this game, and who obviously was not - simply because they can't bdc consistently. The worst part about that is that there is good chance there's some great players out there who are shafted because of this. Doing wavedashing and consistent electrics with Mishimas is character specific, and not needed for players to master to be good at Tekken. But, bdc is.
This needs to change.
This has been long overdue for years, imo.
Execution barriers do need to be in the game, as they elongate the "discovery period" of the game; i.e. the time in which players explore the game through play and learn about things/practice etc. Without the linking execution barrier, for example, SF4 wouldn't receive as much play as it does because not only are links a process of learning, but it teaches players to associate "hype" with "difficult combos/execution" and that is also good for the game. [On the flipside, BDC is only impressive to already educated Tekken players, but that is another issue altogether].
A big problem with BDC, and Tekken in general is that if Tekken ever put in a tutorial about how to get better at the game [so as to teach people how to BDC] people would immediately realize "Hey 90% of my moves are useless or filler" or "Why does my character go into blockstun when I block this Jack move even though Jack is at -14, that doesn't make visual sense, how the fuck was I supposed to figure that out?" or "So Tenstrings only purpose is as ignorance testers and edge case poking situations".. etc etc.
So to it is with BDC. There is no logical way from just playing the game to deduce that BDC is something you should do from the outset by just playing. Now I will say Online has helped this to an incredible degree, you get more exposure to playing good players and you get to see what is good. So that particular complaint is less sharp than it may have been back in the TTT or T5 days.
Looking forward to T7 if, as Aris intimates on his shows, that it will be very different from previous games.
