Namco Announces Soul Calibur 2 HD Online Based on the PS2 Version!
BY Aris ON Friday, July 19, 2013 at 3:22PM
Fucking unbelievable. The game will feature every mode available on the console version as well as online play! Could we see this game return to tournaments? I am very excited about this announcement.
On a side note, make sure you follow PROGRAMMER_Hoshino for future updates.

Here's how this is gonna shake out. Week 1: A ton of online warriors and veterans. Week 2: Mostly veterans who drove off all the online warriors by abusing stepguard and 2G. Week 3: Veterans start remembering why they got sick of this game in the first place. Week 4: *tumbleweeds roll by*
OMFG!!! I just came in my pants!!! The greatest Soul Calibur game ever made!!! Brings back memories.
Wasn't Aris World Champion in this game?
Also, why are they bringing back old games onstead of making new ones?
I bet there will be a 'pay to play' kind of feature in this one...

This should be the picture for this article.
Any Soulcalibur news is exciting to me. I hope the game returns to tournaments.
Namco will make every game on earth before they do Tekken X SF.
@Reality
I pray what you say comes to fruition. I see no hope in such a title personally. :P
Namco's priorities sure are in the right place.
This page needed more sarcasm.

Is that a picture of Aris without a beard??
So weird... and so wrong..!
WHAAA OMG Are you serious? That is so cool!
Is this gonna be PS3 only? FML
This is on PS3/X360 using the PS2 build of the game.
How do you know that? Explain
Oh I just saw that amazing trailer and the little XBL symbol at the end. TOO GOOD.
I hope they bring back the mode where you get to spectate the computer fighting itself. I think it might have been called battle arena? Been so long, I forget.
I'm not demanding they bring back all the weapons, that might be too much to ask, but it would be cool if they brought back the Weapon Master Mode. It had a lot of cool challenges, as well as a story. SC2 was the complete package. I spent so much time in its Practice Mode.
Which reminds me, if they add anything special to the game, I would like thee to be a Practice Mode. At least a very basic one to practice combos in.
Seemed like they might bring back all the good stages too. I remember there were different versions of the same stage sometimes. Like one version in the day and one at night, different stage sizes and shapes, or even ice and lava stages to add spice to the fight!
Forest: To me, it looks like it's complete SCII (all the modes, weapons, characters) with online mode as an extra.
Played this a ton, my friend even hacked his PS2 to play the import JP console version. My basic take on the game is; it's a fun game, but it isn't a good game, or the best SC from the perspective of it being well designed.
My beef is it seems like the game IS designed for it to be very offensive; and the reason for that is to force tough defensive choices, and reward the aggressor. They used the same design philosophy explicitly in SC1. However...
All of the defensive bugs in the game wore that offensive intention away from the pressure game it seemed to be, and that is what ruined it for me personally. Post GI especially, because while there WERE mix-ups with 2G in place, they were too non-committal. Jumping out of mixups and recovering before the opponents attacks because there is no real getup animation or true OKI as one would understand it in Tekken or Later SC's is just one example.
I really enjoyed the game up until just after Nationals, but after it became a lot less fun the more I improved at it, and the more the meta evolved. There is a reason this game became synonymous with the word roachy. Pre-Nats SC2 is the best SC game ever made, to me.
I'll definitely play, and enjoy the nostalgia. I just won't forget why it's only nostalgia, either. Don't look back, you might not like what you find.
The Usual Einsteins popping up in this thread.
It's a HD version of an old game, I doubt it's taking much resources away from Namco. Capcom does this all the time, yet in this case the online will probably work nicely. Harada has already said he is working on 4 fucking projects. For fucks sakes, some of you....
