DOA5 With Guest VF Characters?

I thought the point of a guest character was to bring people in, how popular is Akira outside of Japan?
The way of the future? Maybe... for declining fighting game franchises on their way to obscurity. Character cross-overs these days seem to be evidence that a particular game or media franchise is going down the toilet (Star Wars characters in Soul Calibur 4, a Halo character in Dead or Alive 4, Double Dragon characters in Battletoads, that guy from Infamous in Street Fighter X Tekken, Freddy Krueger in Mortal Kombat). It's a marketing gimmick that compounds the problems in poor games, only now that bad game has an extra character or two who is completely out-of-place.
Character cross-overs done for the hell of it in which the characters bring someone interesting to the game seem to do well (like Capcom vs. SNK or CAS characters in Soul Calibur 5), while cross-overs done purely for marketing purposes (Mortal Kombat vs. D.C. Universe, for example) don't do so well. I'm not sure what to make of Eizo in Soul Calibur 5, he fits in one sense but he doesn't in another; as for Dead or Alive characters in Virtua Fighter, I don't think they're a very good fit. It's as if during a development meeting, some guy blurted out: "Hey, lots of people like Kagemaru in Virtua Fighter, and they like big gazongas. Lets put in more ninjas and give them big gazongas. Oh, there's another game with several ninjas with big gazongas? Bring them in here, right now." Wow, I think that's the entire concept of Dead or Alive right there.

the gameplay looks very similiar to 4 but with a *lot* of close ups and cinematics, not sure if id like that to happen all the time as i play
Being a VF fan, i like Akira but idk about it making me buy a DOA game. I own DOA3 and just the way the game works is horrible and sluggish.

DOA is more similar to VR than to Tekken. It would make sense to have a VF VS DOA. I never take DOA seriously though, VF is infinitely better.

im a big 3d fighting game fan so I'll definitely be picking this up and VF5fs. playing DOA is the most fun ive had in any fighter to date, and VF is my favorite fighter overall. funny how ive invested most of my time into the Tekken series though.
i main Kokoro in DOA4, and in VF5 i use Akira a lot. that's gonna be my team in DOA5. fuck ninjaz, other than yoshi lol.
in DOA and VF i learned the game through concepts, for tekken through frame data, trial n error.
