I love VF, because it's pure hand to hand fighting!

Can't wait for it, but the release is so far away!-_-

What the hell is SEGA doing the whole time?

Definitely intend on honing my craft in the VF universe. 2012 seems like the year for 3d fighters. It will not explode like 2d fighters, but it will be good times for those of us that just love 3d fighters more than 2d. I have learned and became decent at many of the recent 2d fighters, and it just is not as satisfying as reaching over 9,000 in a 3d fighter. VF is supposed to be the Mount Everest of fighters, so let's see if it is as difficult as they say.

The question is will the two ATP presenters play it? It seems like you 2 guys are bandwagon riders and you let other people decide what games your gonna commit to. If everyone did that only the biggest franchises with the biggest marketing would ever get played and not neccesarily the best games.

SFIII:3S could never have had it's revival after it had initially died if everyone had that attitude.

@Neels, I don't like playing games alone. If people play this game, I will play it.

I'm definitely gonna play this game.

It is just California with that attitude. CA does not have to build a scene for a fighting game. If it is there or appears over night then they will play. In lesser parts of the USA and the world things are not that easy. So, Cali can spend more time competing and less time training Joe Slow how to play. Answering the mystery why they are generally higher tier and why many USA top players want to move there. Not dissing California, because it was the fathers of the fighting game community that built that strong foundation.

Anyway, back to VF. I wonder if that summer release date will be in time for EVO? Hopefully, Sega will not ignorantly miss that deadline. Maybe if the Japanese come over to really show what VF can do, and Tag 2 and SCV are out on console as well. Then 3d fighters can remind EVO that our games can be exciting too (and not be a Bob Sagat fiasco).

I fear that Sega took too long to put this out; the game is already pretty old, and we are talking a release date that is a year away. I doubt there is going to be much hype, especially in the Summer of SFxT.

@ Aris I understand that but again your waiting to see what other people do first before giving it a shot, if it still dies off after a while fair enough but if too many people take that attitude it's like a self fulfilling prophecy. They assume something doesn't get played therefore it doesn't. Same thing to an extent happens with other greats like KOF.

Hopefully Sega will use this year to build up to the game the way other companies are doing. Capcom and Namco have made great strides in that regard and even little SNK are getting themselves out there. The fact Sega are bringing the arcade to Pax/Gameworks to finally give people outside Japan to play it is at least a promising start.

They did well in the west with VF4/Evo (best game in the series so far too and most popular FG in Japan) but then didn't capitalize on that.

@Neels, if you are suggesting that I only conform to what other people in America play, then why do I run a Tekken web site and run a Tekken stream every Friday night? Why do I do a Tekken podcast to keep the Tekken scene alive. This year at Evo, T6 was the 4th most popular game out of 5. Your argument doesn't make sense man. I don't play VF because nobody gives a shit about it and I'm already busy trying to keep the Tekken scene alive in the US. I don't have time to build a scene for VF in the US and apparently neither does anyone else because there isn't one. I know VF is a great series but it simply isn't popular here and thus not worth my time.

Hyped about this. Maybe this will revive the 3D fighting game community. All they need is a serious DOA and we are in there.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 3:42 PM | Unregistered CommenterSketch

I don't see how you could call a dedicated Tekken player a bandwagon rider when games like SF4 exist.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 3:42 PM | Registered CommenterAris

But before SF4 the only games with big hype were Tekken, SF3 and SC2 for a while, granted you didn't jump on SF4 when it came out just because it became the biggest game though. I actually meant to refer more to Mike anyway and his comments in 1 of the other podcasts.

I don't think he's gonna be uncovering any undiscovered gems with his attitude.

Wow im acually really happy for the VF community. They deserve to play their game just as much as we do. My only question is what the fuck took so long!

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 6:02 PM | Unregistered CommenterIMFAMOUSMINDED

Aris; giving MK a go and getting all hyped for it over VF is still bs even if you're the last man standing on earth. One is the most popular game in japan and which you know is tournament worthy and the other has a trackrecord of fuck all. You were dedicated to MK from day one.

To the other people; You can listen to Aris podcast with RH for RH's opinion on Tekken and VF and Aris on VF. It's very interesting to say the least... http://www.avoidingthepuddle.com/news/2010/11/21/avoiding-the-puddle-episode-2-featuring-ryan-hart.html

I've played VF and I am not a huge fan. However, I would play it if more people cared about it. I played MK because it was new and interesting and it had weekly tournaments with over 20 entrants. VF has felt the same ever since VF4 and hes almost no competitive interest. Hopefully this will change.

man i feel like a jack ass for buying the orginal VF 5 for just 5 bucks a week ago. ohh well its just 5 bucks.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 6:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterEDGE

WTF, leave aris alone, he doesn't owe anyone anything. He can choose to play whatever he wants. By the way, a summer release is another bad decision by sega, as possibly Tag 2 and other games will be out. VF is a great seres, but sega just can't help mismanage it.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 6:27 PM | Unregistered CommenterStarman

Aris, you do realize that you in your last post basically described exactly what a bandwagon rider is right?

I still hope you give it a fair review like you did with MK or something similar that's all I'm asking (hoping for)? Of course you shouldn't play what you don't like and each to his own beyond that. Get a few vets to help you try the game out and learn it a weeks time and post a review and that's it. If for nothing else cause the game needs exposure (in the west).
