Soul Calibur 5 Reveal Trailer and Game Info (Updated)

Soul Calibur 5 was finally revealed in Dubai today. No gameplay has been shown just yet but there is a bootleg cam recording of the trailer as well as some tidbits of information. from Eurogamer.net

"The game's new fighting style is described as "lighter, sharper, and more elegant". The online mode has been improved with new features. "Gameplay in IV could be a little heavy, particularly when you were online – we wanted gameplay that was more fast and reactive," Tago said.

On the shift in gameplay: "Maybe the hardcore fans will be afraid that we lose the core of the gameplay, but that's not the case. And for new players it's nice to have gameplay that is more continuous – you don't need to wait as much between moves.

"There is quite some change in the gameplay from SCIV. The pace of the game has been improved, and the combos will be easier to perform, and the moves will be easier to pull out."

So many games are coming out, it's not enough time to be really good in any (all) of them.

(T6 --> MK9) --> TTT2 --> SFxT --> TxSF --> SCV

But it's all good, I guess!

Fabulous main character is fabulous.

But really though, good for fighting game fans everywhere, no matter how well this game turns out.

If they fuck this game up like the last two (SC3 & SC4) this series is done. Namco, if you're reading this please don't fuck this game up....please.

every game from now on needs a block button. fuck marvel and the random ass crossups into death.

That would be good topic to discuss. The pros and cons of a block button compared to holding back.

Personally I think having a block button is better. It offers up some nice benefits.

Get the fuck out. Massive breast sizes in this game are legit. I remember being just barely a teenager and staring at Taki's pixelated breasts in Soul Blade for the psx.

It's make or break for this franchise. They gotta bring it back to its roots. SC2 or Bust!

Really can not wait for SCV to come out. 3d fighting game players get the shallow part of the pond, so when it gets filled up it is much more refreshing than the ocean the 2d fighting game players enjoy. I hope the Soul Calibur team takes this game seriously and gives us something to compete against each other with and not just satisfy the casual fans that are not in it for the long run.

i don't understand the easier moves and combos statemetn

soul has always had easy ass combos and moves

the hard part was the strategy and mixups

unless they go back to sc2 though its gonna suck

prove me wrong namco

If you want SC5 to be SC2, just play SC2.

Negative. Obviously SC2 was the best in the franchise. You should know that being a SC enthusist. They gotta bring it back to its roots like Tekken did with Tekken 5 from Tekken 4. While expanding on the game. Keeping it fresh and new for new players to get into, and veterans as well. SC3 and 4 were very bad. Dont argue with me Malice.

Actually SC1 was the best in the franchise.

I got no issue with going back to SC’s roots. I’m just saying don’t expect SC5 to play like SC2.

Also, SC4 is a great game.

wasnt sc1 like really bad for competitive play and isnt that pretty much why everyone hates sc4?

i mean this is just like one of the few videos floating around http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLgg661s-Uk

but back in the day i think 8wr had all the videos of why sc1 was not very good, like the guaranteed on wakeup lizardman glitch unblockable into the guaranteed launcher that would ring out on any stage and what not

but there were quite a few reasons to say that was a bad game if youre willing to say sc4 was a fundamentally flawed game

@jom: I don't know how SC1 was competitively but it's still one of the highest rated fighting games to be released.

I'm sure that the glitch with Lizardman that you are referring to is from SC3 where he could throw you, use VC to keep you stuck in the animation, then ring you out. But even with the amount of glitches in SC3, there's still people who loved that game to death and played it competitively until SC4 came out. Just the same as the people who got into SC2 and played that game to death.

Right now I play SC4 competitively and try to run tournaments for the older games. With the amount of people who say they loved SC2, I don't see much interest in people actually trying to play it. Usually 3D games die with each iteration, but with the amount of people who played SC2 and loved it, it shouldn't have died.

And what is so fundamently flawed about SC4? Most people when they talk about SC4, they have no idea what they are talking about and are completely wrong about the game, or just hate the game because it's not SC2. You can find plenty of examples on SRK in the latest threads on the frontpage. The only gripes that I have in SC4 is that it lacks single player content which I'm not that worried about since I play the game competitively, and movement which would have been changed if there was an update on the console instead of an updated version of the game coming out on the PSP.

But it's just my opinion. I play SC4 competitively and I think its great, especially compared to the other fighting games that are out there. Plus the community for the game is awesome.
