Putting the Complexity of Tekken into Perspective

Tekken is an incredibly complex game and it's all due to its gameplay design which allows players such a huge scope of possible interactions. A key component that Tekken owes to its incredible depth is the gameplay mechanic of being able to cancel a huge amount of animation states and movement to formulate your unique game plan. In Tekken, the most difficult and intrinsic ability to train and elevate yourself as a competitor is a thorough understanding of the movement system with its ability to cancel any kind of movement action into other actions. It is also the most frustrating thing in Tekken as a new player to come to grips with and wrestle with since understanding and practicing all the possible movement options in the neutral allows you to avoid getting hit by enemy attacks. To really home in on the sheer complexity of Tekken, recent modding efforts on PC Tekken 7 has given us Finite State images of every possible animation state available to a character. Or to put it more simply, a big scary flowchart of every possible thing you can do or find yourself in Tekken 7. The finite state visuals below come courtesy of the modder @Dantarion and really puts into perspective of how incredibly complex a game Tekken is.

This image is condensed but the nodes that branch far out are the 10 strings with the bulk of the character movelist animation in the large pool.

This one features a lot more character states from neutral as it includes movement, animation and cancels. There's also entries for every possible direction and button combination added. (Cheats a little by including states you cannot initiate yourself like getting hit, throw techs, oki and more. )
