Tekken 7 will probably not have 2P outfits

Harada recently tweeted a reply to someone asking about 2P outfits in Tekken 7. Everything is in Japanese but google translate says that a 2P outfit doesn't make much sense when there are customization options available. He doesn't outright say Tekken 7 will not have 2P outfits, but I think it's a fair assumption to have looking forward. And as for some new art, Harada already made a tweet regarding that.

I understand what he's saying and I somewhat agree with it. In tournament settings it doesn't matter, of course, but I still like the 2P choice, because you can't customize your character on the spot. I prefer Steve's casual outfit over his boxing one, for example. It's a minor thing.

I got the feeling Harada said this more as a personal opinion and not so much as what's going to happen in T7.

Wow,
They already take more than half the outfits from Tekken 6. I know they are in financial troubles, but you wanna tell me they cant even take the other outfits from the same game and rig them accorsingly?
Sure it's not exactly copy-paste (even though the whole game feels like it), as they need to apply the new physics etc but damn, this is supposed to be the (epic) conclusion of the Mishima Legacy.

I feel tekken, as now, will never have the mainstream hype as back when Tekken 3 came out, but I feel like these guys just dont care anymore :\

Ocelot isn't it in tournament settings EXACTLY where it matters? I doubt tournaments allow customizations so both players will have to wear the same outfit which sucks. I swear that back in the day when they said they had 1/4th the budget of tekken 5 and it was denied - it was probably the truth. From having 3p outfits by manga artists in tt2 and t6 to just 1p, cause what? Cause we will be able to put traffic cones on their backs?

Just you watch how they will retain their current old outfits for the majority of the cast. Or do you think that they will add new costumes and miss the opportunity to simply move these 'classic' outfits to the 2p outfit? Lars and Kazuya new outfits will most probably be exclusive.

Tekken 7 feels so meh..! But now.. even Mortal Kombat X hype is also dead for me. The are going to have micro-fucking-transactions!!

Can't these companies just make a fucking game and release it for $60 or whatever?! I'm so tired of these cheap ways for them to get more money from the players. 10 years ago you could unlock characters, stages, costumes and whatnot by playing the fucking game! Nowdays you have to buy everything. Look what MicroSoft is doing to Killer Instinct. People who love that game have already spent like $100 on it. That's bullshit!

I'm done with MKX. If microtransactions is not just a silly rumor, then forget it. I'm not buying it because of my principles. The companies are being fucking cunts!

@Reality

At least they have to make a color swap, like it usually happens when both players pick the same costume, so we don't have the exact same character model in mirror matches.

Tekken Global Championship allowed customizations, but normally during offline tourneys I've seen on the Internet, I don't see any customizations. If I were a TO, I wouldn't allow customizations. Crazy niggas coloring everybody black so we can't see their moves or super colorful costumes with butterfly wings to give eye seizures.

You know, initially, when TTT2 was announced, I thought "meh", and then I progressively got hyped. With T7, it's the opposite. The more time passes, the more I think to myself: "What are they doing?". I hope to hell they're saving all their 150 features and innovations for the March or console release. I'll still buy the game, but I find some of the decisions they're making dubious. Perhaps due to my lack of knowledge, but regardless I'm not liking the lackluster advertisement T7 is getting.

Hey people, don't forget that in this tweet Harada was mainly referring to Arcade Release.

Pretty lame excuse really. Most characters have had the same costume since T5 which came out ten years ago! One thing I liked a lot about T4 is the fact that the whole cast were visually overhauled. It would be good to, you know, get some progression going for the series- I mean, is T7 going to be set like a week after 6? I get the customization argument, but still....

I shouldn't be surprised after Tag 2's "2P outfits", man those were beyond lame. But now though seriously, one outfit per character? When was the last time a 3D fighter did that, VF1? Even if you used the old 2P designs from Tekken 6 that would be better than nothing. Why do I even need to make an argument for creating new content for a new game? I bet the majority of customization options are just rehashed from Tag 2. smh

It would be an error not to make the 2nd outfits for the following reasons:
- they gives a wider point of view over the characters personality
- usually 2nd outfits are created with more accuracy then customs (less irrealistic polygonal interpolations)
- they are easier to process (don't know why) so the frame rate will not scale down.
- they represent a good variation for those who like to watch tournament matches.

ditto what Mishima16 said.

well that's legitimately disappointing.

I wish they'd bring back their classic outfits as customizations at least, would've made more sense in TTT2 but if they could implement it here as well thatd be great.

Doesn't matter for arcade sure. Going to suck for you console only players though...
