TEKKEN 7 - Next Numbered Installment of Tekken Series Announced
Straight from EVO 2014, Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada announces the next numbered installment of the series - Tekken 7. The announcement comes with a small teaser video featuring what is presumably Kazumi Mishima who I believe is Kazuya's mother. Additionally, an earlier leak on AOL.com showed a video with Harada saying that the engine of Tekken 7 will be powered by Unreal Engine 4 which will allow the team to develop the game for several different platforms. Minor speculation on my part but since Tekken 7 will now be using UE4, it's not farfetched to see a PC release of the title in the future. You can watch the announcement video below. More details on Tekken 7 will be coming on July 25th at the San Diego Comic-Con event.

@mario
because of the filter in the dojo i am sure this is a flashback and because kazuya has the devil gen and heihachi not make her look like even more to be kazumi
If I understand correctly, them using the new unreal engine means this won't be on ps3 as it can't handle it. That's a good thing imo.
Hadara spoke on the Tekken casino stream about the next Tekken and indicated his approval of a smaller roster of about 40 he said. And also that Tekken Revolution is a game intended to attract the newer players hence the weird beginner mechanics , so I Highly doubt Tekken 7 will have stat boost and invincible attacks.
But since the game is just in a early stage I think this is a good time for the community to voice their opinions on the changes we want to see!!

Finally we say goodbye to tag mode. Unreal engine 4 is a beast, hopefully we see some gameplay on july 25. Please, fix the hit box for the bears , many juggles just don't work on them.
Why so many negative comments about a new game announcement you'd think people would be happy. Though I do agree Namco should tone down the number of characters I don't think they should eliminate characters like Yoshi and Lei who have been in the games since one and two. If you have trouble with a match up you should work on it and figure it out. That's what Tekken is about adapting strategies and applying them not metes and super arts. If you want a simpler game go play Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat don't ruin things for those of us who have an attention span.
Stupidity of some of the comments is laughable. That's why fans should stay out of the developement process entirely and let the developers make a game THEYwant.
Fingers crossed for some inovations and originality - be it gameplay or character roster. But whatever it is, can't wait.
Kazuya's mom? Is this a prequel set before Tekken 1? Also, it looks like they're heading in a more serious direction, which is fine by me after the goofy overload of TTT2.
ttt1 and ttt2 is from the story only a spinoff
a collections of all parts before (character side)
Wow a lot of hate and nonsense from a lot of the posts! Personally I hope they replace most of the cast new members, but I hope they still bring in Skillpachi! But yes a smaller cast would be nice, and hopefully combo breakers if the tekken team is going via the combo route. I personally trust the Tekken team so I feel my comments aren't needed, but I would hope they change it up via new but smaller rooster rather than completely changing the game we all love. Yes even Tag 2.
"and hopefully combo breakers if the tekken team is going via the combo route."
@Comrade chef
pls explain
IT seems to me that if Tekken is to become more Combo centric, like T6 and TTT2 then perhaps a combo breaker system to help break things up. But as I said before I trust the Tekken team to make a great product.
Not that it matter's but here are my 2 cents:
-Tekken 2 size roster
-Tekken 3 type minigames (ball, force mode, etc)
-Tekken 4 type dynamic stages (phone booths, cars, underground fight club, etc)
-Tekken 5 combo damage/gameplay (average combos do 60-70%, hard combos 70-80% damage)
-Dual characters are costume swaps with summerized movesets (cappos/bears/animal boxers/jacks 1-7)
-No stand-alone bound, only on low parry/floor break/wall break/object break (with heavy damage scaling)
-Old universal low parry (combo damage options 50-60%)
-Break throws with punches (1, 2, 1+2), reverse throws with kicks (3, 4, 3+4)
-Update the characters standard outfits (tekken 5-ttt2 have been pretty much the same, except for miguel in ttt2)
-Include a primary and secondary outfit while limiting customized character slots to 1 or 2
-Button change/select done at character select screen
-COMMAND CAPTURE
There are simpler games and minor roster size in so many other fighting games that complaining about this is one makes absolutely no sense imo. I hope it comes with ttt2 mechanics and other options for those who did not enjoy it. Let's wait and see.
New engine probably means graphic overhaul (i.e. new 3D models). I'd like to see some drastically revamped character designs like they did in T4, or at the very least better customization options.
Gameplay needs to emphasize movement and setups and not so much combo execution. I wouldn't mind if they got rid of the crush system and went back to T3 mechanics. Backdash HAS to stay though. Movement is the only way to have true skill in this game.
Getting rid of peripheral characters is good...no need to keep Kuni, Baek, Roger, and other less central characters. That being said, I'd like to see at least 2 new well-designed characters on top of the core roster.
I like the darker feel of this Tekken. Thematically, I'd like to see more of a Tekken 2 feel with an emphasis on the Mishima core storyline. Tekken needs to return to its roots...it's gone off the rails since Tekken 6.
If Harada already has confirmed that there will be a smaller roster of about 35 - 40 characters, well, then I'm a happy camper!
And if T7 will be comboeheavy like T6 and TTT2, there is surely a need for some type of combobreaker.
And people saying there are other games with smaller roster and fewer moves, aren't helping much. We don't want other fightinggames, we want Tekken.
My guess is TEKKEN7 will be a continuation of BR. They will settle Mishimas matters once and for all. Tekken 8 will be the real renew. Tekken 7 will probably have 50 characters nothing gonna change for now.
I hope they will put more effort into Manji storyline.
Yoshimitsu needs some more love.
