I can understand if its a healthy and popular game like SF or Marvel
But making a big Tekken tournament with lots of international talent and not streaming it? To try and pretend the outside world doesn't exist for a "hardcore" setting?
All it does is just screw over the many people worldwide who simply can't make it and further hurt the game
No stream wouldn't hurt the game. Bronson said that videos would be released in one way or another after the event, which will bring hype.
The lack of streams would also streamline the tournament process, which caters to those who actually go. If people hear about how streamline and fun the tournament is, more Tekken players would go to the next Strongstyle (knock on wood) that happens.
The entire point of streaming is to benefit the tournament and the players who show up by increasing the stakes/competition and the prize pool.
Its just bizarre to think that streams are not benefiting players who show up to events. TBH I had no idea who Bronson even was before EVO 2013.
Why even publicly advertise a tournament that isn't meant for the public?
If the idea is to have like 20-30 old school players sit around and pretend its 'the good old days' then call it what it really is - a tekken elite circle jerk session that nobody needs to give a shit about because its irrelevant to 99.9% of the people who like Tekken.
I never thought I'd say I support a no stream tournament but in this case I do. I mean look at last WNF, no tekken streamed, RiB, Beel, Rickstah in the chat watching it Aris and Rip at home no Inkog etc = no stream time at all KAPPA. Tekken players have become lazy and would rather sit and watch streams at home then go out and actually play. We're the only scene that is this way, as Aris said capcom players have no trouble travelling to two events in quick succession and welcome the trainingtime playing before a big event. In Tekken, since it's the same-ol-same-old crowd all the time people can't be bothered coming out.
It also makes Strongstyle fresh and unique - feels like Shang Tsungs Island (Jimmy cosplay?!?!?). I hope Bronson doesn't even release which international players will be there myself pre event.
@Reality
I find it a bit ironic that you say Tekken players "have become lazy and would rather sit and watch streams at home then go out and actually play" because this describes BRONSON HIMSELF.
He didn't go to SCR or FR, and he constantly steam monsters it up in tournament chats.
He basically just wants to throw a Tekken party his buddies, but he is trying to put it on the same level as FR or EVO which is laughable.
The only reason why the people he mentioned and even Bronson himself are considered top players is because of big tournaments that had STREAMING.
It's the FGC Illuminati y'all.
They be all like, triangles and eyeballs and shit.
So when am I getting my golden ticket to Jimmy Tsung's secret island battle??
"Are you gonna go to this years' EVO?"
"No man, I'm going to JT's SIB instead!"
Jimmy Tsung's Secret Island Battle needs to be the official name for this event. Make it happen!
ANCN:
It's rather contradictory to say that this tournament is nothing but a "circle jerk" and that it will be "irrelevant" and then proceed to get all worked up about it, don't ya think? Relax dude. Attendees will certainly upload youtube videos of the matches. You just won't be able to watch it live.
Release a DVD like EVO back in the days!! I'll buy it.e
