he doesn't need to be a top player (or even especially good, for that matter) to be surprised that "high level" Japanese players were dropping combos or consistently failing to optimize punishment opportunities any more than he needs an M.D. to tell you that leprosy is bad.
that said, I myself haven't seen this video yet - but I'm typically never as blown away by high end Japanese Tekken play (unless it's a very select few players - e.g. Shou, Niidaime MS Ryu, Mishimaster) as I am with the Korean guys.
The premise that you have to be better at something yourself to be able to critique it is a false one. It would be pretty bizarre if the MVP's in a soccer or ballgame actually were the coaches sitting on the bench. The guy was just stating his opinion which he is entitled to.
I love watching JP gameplay myself I've always found it a bit more 'wild' and creative; they go balls out. If you want to learn setups and what not JP gameplay is the way to go. Korean is more technical imo but can also be a lot more 'dry' at times with limited movesets.
Yeah seriously bro hop off my cack... you got way too defensive. Combos are very basic, shouldn't be dropped and punishment, I understand is hard to do consistently in high level play. I just expected more. imma look out for stetup tho.
Anyways......great vid Aris. Keep em comin! And to the post above me, you need to relax man. I respect high level play no matter the region. No one is perfect, everyone drops combos once in a while,im sure you can relate to that.
It's easy to miss the fact that their are a wide range of ranked players in this tournament vid. You can expect DAN level players to drop combos. You can also expect a Yellow Ranked player, who is so nervous that he is losing quite a bit of rounds to a DAN scrub, to drop combos and miss punishments. It might even be understandable that this is some of these players 1st time even entering a tournament. You will notice that as the ranking goes up the orange, red, and blue you don't have these issues. Which makes sense..... right? huh? OK then, lets get off the whole japan vid = tekken excellence no matter the rank thing otay?

What's with all the dropped combos and bad punishment...
You act as if you are even close to being solid as these players. Are you kidding me? Who are you to talk?
lol, what?

Japanese, though, are more brave in their option select and their fights are always more intresting and educational than Koreans'.
I think Gangsterofluv took FightingGM out in a NEC tourney if I recall correctly, lol
