Soul Calibur 5: Auto Fuzzy Guard Against Lows

While playing games with Insomnotek, we discovered that an auto fuzzy guard exists in SC5. It is unclear how game breaking this is, but the video shows how it works. This tactic will block mid attacks and jump over lows automatically. Make sure you subscribe to our Youtube channel and thanks for the support.

For those who don't know what a "Fuzzy Guard" is...Someone is bound to ask :)

Fuzzy Guard: When a character Blocks an attack High and then switches to a Low guard, although they are blocking Low, the game does not change the size of their hittable box from standing to crouching until the Block Stun ends. This means they can still be hit with attacks that would Whiff if they were crouching normally.

Damn, how did Aris on his first day discover this while the entire French and German players who've had this game like forever never came across this bug?

hmm man after seeing this i am really thinking - should i cancel the order?
a broken move before the game isnt even out ...

Aris. Does this beat throws at all? I know you didn't mention it in vid so I'm guessing not but it affects only lows/mids?

Regardless, knee jerk I feel this is ass. Long run maybe concentrating on fuzzy guard will open you up to other stuff.

Just another tool to work with/against. It's better to turn a wrench than bitch about the nuts and bolts.

Very interesting ! Thank you for posting this, this seems kinda game-breaking for some pressing characters though.... I don't know.

Good job finding this, Aris. Tear the game apart further to find any more glitches.

Ok, this isn't as game breaking as it seems. Asked Saitoh about this, he and the other players who made the guide knew about this beforehand. They told Future Press to tell Namco. So... Namco is aware of this.
It doesn't jump throws, it makes people static, they can't JG, and their guard can be broken.

It may be very good against few characters like stance siegfried, and mitsu... We shall see.

Depending on how long Namco's known about it, we could see a patch on the first day of official U.S. release.

It's not like they have to rework a character's moveset and then test everything against all characters, right? All they have to do is correct a bug with guarding across the board.

ZAP_SRK:

No, thats the 2D defenition, fuzzy guard in 3d games is doing something to block both the mid and the low in a mixup, usually by progressive guard. For example doing df,df guard in vf to block the elbow and duck the throw.

How come you guys have this game?? Is this game out in the US already??

Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 6:14 AM | Unregistered CommenterDrBhup

a low high mid string would probably rape that. Aris how did you get the game early?

Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 6:15 AM | Unregistered Commenterdarthmarth

We need an update on this Aris. Can you punish some fast lows with this "glitch" ? I don't like the looks of this ...

@DrBhup

The official US release is supposed to be 31st, so yeah, he got it earlier somehow.

I know its a bit early to judge stuff when theres a possibility of million broken moves or combos but going from Tekken 6 to SC5 this particular move Kayane used to obliterate everyone in the tournament that just happened in france seems broken as fuck. Described by Hayate, a french player who participated in the same tournament and lost in the finals:

"Leixia's WS B BE xD This move has autostep, TC, autoGI, tracking both side, safe on block, launcher property and isn't backdash whiff punishable. A good broken move"

@Qeruberosu

Easiest way I can think of off the top of my head to combat that move would be to hit Leixia with a million mids so she doesn't want to duck, and therefore would be more cautious about doing a WS attack.

I wanna see what happens when you hit the Fuzzy Guard with a Super or a ariel move (attacker attacks while jumping). Maybe you throw a low attack at some fuzzy guarding and when they jump Super? What about a low to mid string? Does the mid hit them while they jump if it is fast enough...This is discouraging because I'm really hype about this game. Patchable hopefully....or not game breaking.
