LevelUpYourGame E3 Interview with Harada and Michael Murray

Last week at e3, Rip from LevelUpYourGame and Subt-L from TekkenLive.com got the chance to catch up with Harada and Michael Murray for a great interview. Check it out below.

"Sorry for the audio quality, the room had big fan noise and a bunch of general E3 noise. I filtered out as much of the noise as possible."

sounds like some sort of combo breaker concept. I wouldn't mind if it could only be used once a match or something.

WOW! This was 10x cooler than the Harada Podcast awhle back! This is a full blown interview. Wow, wow, WOW! If I was there in person and I asked Harada San for a hug, would that be weird?

I think alot of what Hadada/Murray said is true. They can not single handedly revive the arcade scene internationally. If arcades do not exhist, obviously it is hard to get the game in the arcade version form. Still sucks though. But it is not because fighting games are in decline, but because arcades themselves are in decline, as Hadada/Murray said. That was a great question, Rip. I am glad Rip brought such good questions to this interview. "If we bring it to the console version first, it kills that whole [arcade] market." It IS disappointing, Hadada/Murray, I completely agree, as do the thousands or millions of gamers who want to play Tekken Tag 2 at the arcade, including me.

But since there is no arcade market left in the World outside of Eastern Asia, why not release Tekken Tag 2 for console and for arcade at the same time? When I buy a game for my console, like SF3: 3rd Strike for instance, after I buy it for console, I would still go to the arcade. Before they all closed. But, I can see their point. At this point, IMO, arcades, outside of that Eastern Asia hotbed of arcade prosperity, should take a back seat to the consoles. The console has become front and center for all games. Just look at PC gaming and how Shooters are now almost exclusive for the consoles!

That question about the tekken HD movie was very good too, Rip. If all 40+ characters were in the movie, that would be 40+ minutes each. It would make the story suffer as a result. Good answer, Hadada/Murray!

In regards to the answer by Hadada/Murray: For people who play fighting games, it is not really about whether they can play in an arcade. Instead, it is about their own progression, and watching themselves get better.

I agree, to a point. How do I get better unless I can play other people in an arcade with the newest version, Tag 2, not the current version, Tekken 6? It is hard to get better without the game at all. But maybe Hadada/Murray means the fighting gamer likes playing old versions because of their depth. Like people who still play 3rd Strike of MVC2 after so many years.

This was amazing, I really enjoyed it.

Wow … A free pass out of juggles? Why? Because people don't like receiving damage/waiting? What a shit idea ... While they're at it, they could work in an option to keep your points/title when you lose in ranked, just in case you feel like your opponent "Juggled too much" or you just don't like losing … But you can only bitch out twice a month! … -_-"

Seriously, juggles are such a big part of what makes Tekken the wonderful series that it is. On top of being a deep & involving system it's one of the most CRUCIAL tools in achieving victory. We spend so much time figuring them out & training them to consistency; finding ways to squeeze more damage out of them via setups, carries etc. … Giving scrubs who hate juggles—and never took the time we did to figure them out in the first place—a pat on the back and a chance to spit on our efforts is just … Insulting. I really hope I'm not the only one who feels that way … I mean, that's SUCH a panic button! Not only that, but it TOTALLY breaks the flow of a match. Scrub-mechanics like that should be exclusive to titles like SSFIV. If this 'idea' really sticks, I'm honestly a little concerned for the future of this series.

Haha look at what these wankers have gone & done … They lose, get mad, complain about juggles instead of going to practice mode & what happens? The developers actually HUMOR the idea of coddling & pandering to THEM … If you don't like juggles, don't fucking PLAY TEKKEN. Don't sully the experience for the people who were patient enough to take the time and effort to learn them … =\
