MVC3 Review: From The Eyes of a Tekken Player

I thought I would do a quick review of MVC3 from the perspective of a Tekken player to help some of the Tekken players out there who might be interested in this game but aren't sure exactly how it works in relation to Tekken. Hope you enjoy it.

Amen brother. I honestly don't understand how people are actually into this type of game. I mean yeah, I understand it has popular characters like Wolverine, Iron Man, Ryu, etc., but fuck it, it's all about GAME PLAY.
Street Fighter IV is too simplistic, too.
The Tekken engine is just right. Oh well, just one man's opinion.

Im not a fan of 2d fighters. But I do respect the hype that marvel brings to the genre. All I can say is wait till TTT2 drops. Tag will shut everything down.

Sorry for the second post. But you gotta tell it like it is. Game is hella cheap. I'm glad I didnt buy that shit but Tekken's gotta get that practice mode right. Some kind of tutorial mode that will hone your skills from begginner to expert.

MVC3 is a piece of broken fucking trash made for this generation of dumb fuck gamer who needs cool shit to happen without it being hard to do. This out lazies SF4, which I thought was impossible.

That being said, it's kinda fun to mess around with, but right now I just don't think it's a solid game.

Also, Charles you are a fucking boss.

couldn't agree more on the combo system, wolverines combos made my fuckin head hurt...

In MVC3's defense, the game is still in its dormant infancy. It's about as bad as the BS that was being done in T6.0 original release in Japan where DJin's SS+2~u did 60% of the life bar (80% with wall break)... Everyone could reset the bound once the wall hit.... Rage being even more ridiculous, etc.

Capcom will take care of it just like Namco did from 6.0 to BR.

That being said, Tekken is still the funnest fighting game for me. I really can't see myself investing time into this game considering how I'm still so scrubby in Tekken struggling @ doing iSW being an Armor King player. :p

"I don't even understand how Capcom players have the nerve to complain about juggle damage and damage in general in tekken but this is retarded."

agree

Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 8:07 PM | Unregistered Commenterjonsf

spot on. being able to do big juggles in matches helps, but they're still pretty much random.

Character select screen looks so much like MVC2's. I agree that in marvel you are doing so many random things all the time and if you whiff attacks it does not matter as much. But I do not agree on how dashing jump-ins are unseeable. I can counter with a dragon punch or block low for the crouching LK. I did not hear about X-Factors, looks interesting. Rage quitters online will only be able to play other rage quitters? Comforting. Why can't Namco make user interfaces like Capcom can? To become a Tekken player you have to research everything yourself. You really have to try hard to become better at Tekken. It looks like all the information you need is already in the game for MVC3. Tekken might be just a little bit more complicated, however.

the triangle jump stuff got nerfed

Storm, Magneto who used to abuse this to get a quick overhead now can't connect their light attack from a triangle jump. you have to do it at the peak of the jump which makes it way more seeable.

this game is "balanced" around how everything is so messed up though. If you played say Guilty Gear before and got into it then MvC3 should be quite up there.

One thing this game does absolutely right is online matchmaking fight request in practice mode, seriously

EVERY FUCKING FIGHTING GAME THAT COMES OUT IN FUTURE NEEDS THIS OPTION!

Listening namco?

MVC3 is fun but it's stupid as fuck. I think Capcom's goal was to make the game as simple as they could to make it accessible to new players so that they would buy the game, add in fan service and staples like Sentinel from MVC2 to attract the hardcore MVC2 fans to this game, and then have all of the characters do stupid amounts of damage so that players feel like they are doing some hype ass shit. It also makes for a lazy way to balance the game.

It's good to play the game since alot of people will be playing this until Street Fighter gets an update for the console. If you have no plans on playing this seriously, then I wouldn't buy it. I'm only playing this so I can stay active since there's really not much else out there to play and it's going to be a while before TTT2 and the next Soul Calibur game come out to console.

All of our comments should be forwarded to to shoryuken.com!!! Hell SF players hate on Tekken all the time.

@IMFAMOUSMINDED its just cuz SF players has these tiny lil brains that can only keep track of 5 moves and two ultras per character...
