Avoiding the Puddle Episode #14 featuring Harada, Murray and Odashima
BY Aris ON Monday, January 10, 2011 at 10:41PM
To say that this is a special episode of Avoiding The Puddle is a huge understatement. I’m honored to welcome on the director of the Tekken series, Katsuhiro Harada, member of the Tekken design team, Michael Murray and a special surprise guest, new Director of the Soul Calibur series, Daishi Odashima. Big thanks to these guys for coming on the podcast.

@loldongs Do you feel that way about all the others, or just this one?
Nice podcast; although you said in an earlier episode that there would be a major announcement from those guys. Where was it?!
Harada~sama!
good shit Michael and Aris - a very interesting and informative cast.
I am going to start making preparations for Evo flights now - if Harada~sama and Mr Moore can make Evo again this year - it would be a great honour.
thanks so much for this - wow hearing that ending TTT music lead out the cast sends those makes those good memoreis come rushing back....
bad!
Very good and exciting podcast. The only answer I was sad to hear is that they are leaning towards the one character KO system of Tekken Tag Tournament 1. I want exciting single character comebacks more than the higher tension of keeping both characters alive. It is not a make or break issue with me, because I will still play. I just think that going the Marvel vs Capcom route would be a strong ingredient to making Tekken more fun to watch.
damn a new one already?? nice
@9thpixel I think the TTT1 knock out rules are much more exciting when you factor in the game mechanics of TTT. If it had MvC KO rules, every battle would last longer, comebacks and upsets would be rarer, and less strategy would be involved.
@9thpixel
At the same time it's even more exciting seeing desperation tag outs succeed in the high tension of the match. Also it provides a nice mindgame of strategy that would otherwise be absent had they went he MvC route.
But it was interesting to see all the discussion about balancing and online issues. Looking at that I'm not gong to have high hopes for a decent online mode with TTT2 either.... however long that will take to come to consoles :(
But I'd love to be surprised. And also, Scenario campaign is here to stay unfortunately.
Aris ftw. Great podcast. Good to know my character still lives...
@tieTYT No, the one featuring TomHilfiger was better, it's just this one so far. Then again, I havent listened to anything but these two.
Aris my man , always relevant , always to the point, always entertaining. good job..... now just practice more yah scrub cuz your feng is going down next time I see you.
@Roncock, Don't worry, they will be back.
@loldongs, Thanks for the input, unfortunately the sound quality was exceptionally bad because the call was from SoCal to Japan and they used speaker phone. I tired my best to improve it with editing but I'm a scrub. I'll try to work on this issue.
Great podcast as usual Aris!
OMG he used the tekken tag 1 music in the end. It was so epic. Great work lost Viking.
@tieTYT, AAK
Are you sure it is not just old man syndrome? I am unaware of a TTT match that looks as hype as Justin Wong's Cyclops MVC2 comeback. Maybe I am just not seeing it because Tekken 4 was my first Tekken game and I did not join competition at my local arcade until Tekken 5. But, watching TTT videos I can find on youtube have not changed my mind.
Time could be a valid point, but damage seems to be higher than it was. Besides, why do fighting games have to end in a flash when FPS can take ten minutes or more? Just because they are arcade games and it is all about making money as rapidly as possible? I don't know, maybe I am just not getting it. All I see is that it boils down to being a team game.
if the practice mode was better id probably stay in that thing constantly . practice practice give us replay mode
I love you Aris. Seriously.
All tekken 6 characters will be in TTT2 SWEET! I like bound. Rage is good too. Will there be health regeneration in TTT2?
A lot of good info in that podcast. We just confirmed at least 40 characters, 5 button layout, 1 character ko wins, more advanced practice mode, and the longing question of if they've considered GGPO. Great job Aris.
9Pixel, unfortunately the best ttt matches aren't on youtube. But if you were there, you'd know how intense it can be when someone's got a character with full life waiting and the player is trying to fight and find a way to tag them in safely so they don't lose half their life coming in. But in the process they could lose the whole round. Sooo much fun.
It saddens me to not know that Aris had a podcast until now.
@Jayshadow, Sup man, spread the word around! I'll be covering SC when the time comes.
